Kashi Chicken Rustico Review

Kashi recently started selling a line of frozen hot pocket like sandwiches they call pocket breads. They have released 3 pocket pocket breads: Chicken Rustico, Turkey Fiesta, and Veggie Medley.

Instead of the flaky crust you would find on a hot pocket, Kashi uses a seven whole grain bread with sesame.

Each pocket bread features the following in regards to health:

  • At least 10 grams of protein
  • 400mg of ALA Omega-3
  • At least 4 grams of fiber
  • Zero grams trans fats and no preservatives

I choose to try their Chicken Rustico which has 18 grams of protein and only 300 calories. Kashi describes the contents of the Chicken Rustico as: combining marinated garlic chicken, spinach, fire roasted red peppers, crimini mushrooms with Parmesan cheese and a roasted garlic, white wine tomato sauce.

Cost: Around $3.50 USD.

Pros: Quick healthy 300 calorie meal. Omega 3’s. Lots of Protein. Fiber. No trans fats, or preservatives.

Cons: Only 1 pocket bread (sandwich) in a box. Kind of bland tasting compared to a hot pocket. Crust is more chewy due to the wheat bread, instead of a flaky crust like you would find on a hot pocket. It is small. It is just not enough food in of itself if you have an appetite. You need some veggies or fruit to go with it. High in salt, but just about all frozen foods are.

Overall: It’s not bad tasting but I’m not sure I would purchase the Chicken Rustico again. However,  I would like to try the Turkey Fiesta.

  1. I actually love the Chicken Rustico. I am eating it right now and at my local Wal-Mart they are $2.88,so they are doable with my budget.
