About this Chicken Soup with Goji Berries and Red Dates Recipe
This is a very common chinese herbal soup that is great to have in the winter or spring, and especially when you want to recover from being sick. The ingredients are easy to find and are very nutritious. Red dates are high in vitamin C, the Goji berry is packed full of antioxidants, and the Dang shen is said to improve organ function. Note: Always consult your doctor before adding these ingredients to your diet.
Chicken Soup with Goji Berries and Red Dates Ingredients
- 500 grams or a little over 1 lb chicken (thighs/breast/wings)
- 100 grams / 3.5 ounces goji berries
- 70 grams / 2.5 ounces or about around 30 red dates
- 3 stalks dang shen (Codonopsis pilosula) also known as poor man's ginseng
- salt
Step 1
Cut the chicken into small pieces, wash the dates, goji berry and dangshen, and put all the ingredients into the slow cooker and cook for 1.5 hours. Serve Hot

This soup is very healthy too because Goji berry and dates are one of the known super foods.
