Chocolate chip cookies are a Christmas classic. As a child I remember leaving out a stack of Nasbisco brand Chips Ahoy cookies and a glass of milk for Santa to enjoy after he arrived. While Chips Ahoy were good, if I had put out the cookies that were made using this recipe, maybe I would have received more presents. Yes, they are that good.

While this chocolate chip cookie recipe calls for walnuts, you don’t have to use them. However, the walnuts add great texture and crunch. You could also try using pecans.

  • 2 sticks butter - unsalted
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 12 ounce bag chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

Step 1

Add the sugars, butter, and vanilla to a mixing bowl.

Step 2

Using an electric mixer, beat it all together until it has a light and fluffy consistency.

Step 3

Add the eggs and continue beating until well combined.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, hand stir the baking soda, salt, and flour together until well mixed.

Step 5

With your electric mixer on low-speed, gradually add in the flour mixture.

Step 6

Once the flour has incorporated into the mixture, you can increase the speed of the mixer. Be sure to use a spatula to scrape down the sides of the mixing bowl (with the mixer off) if you need to.

Step 7

Now we have a basic cookie dough.

Step 8

Add your chocolate chips to the cookie dough and stir on low speed.

Step 9

Once the chocolate chips have been mixed in, add in the chopped walnuts and continue mixing on low speed.

Step 10

Now we have a chocolate chip and walnut cookie dough.

Step 11

Put some parchment paper down on a baking sheet. Use a teaspoon measure to scoop the cookie dough and place on the parchment paper. Space out the cookies so that they are 2 inches apart. If you like larger cookies, use a tablespoon measure and increase the spacing distance.

Bake the chocolate chip walnut cookies at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes or until they have a nice golden color. Your oven temperature may vary, so keep an eye on them after around 9 minutes.
